Evan in the Mix

Evan McGill 2025

My name is Evan McGill and I’m grateful to have called CenterStaging home for 20 years this summer. I coordinate our roster of skilled technicians out on shows, including The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! I also continue to manage and work on my own slate of shows and clients throughout the year.

What’s one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had at CenterStaging?

American Idol 2024 Being a part of hallmark shows like the Kennedy Center Honors, Oscars, and American Idol have been unforgettable experiences. But the most rewarding element has been meeting and working with people from all walks of life to accomplish once-in-a-lifetime performances. Between art directors, stage managers, local house teams, the bands and crews on stage, and our own CS technicians and staff, it’s truly remarkable what can be accomplished with the right group and vision.

Where have you seen the most change in the industry and where do you see it heading?

The Voice 2023 The changes in music and television production over the past two decades have been profound as a result of technology. Watching large-scale physical props become mostly replaced by video elements, and seeing how delivery channels for music and entertainment content have evolved has been fascinating to experience. Moving forward, I believe pathways into the music industry will continue to shift, and opportunities for creativity will flourish, but most importantly, the spirit and love for music will continue to thrive.

Is there a b Coachella LA Phil and or artist on your bucket list you’d love the opportunity to work with?

Working hands-on in the industry, I quickly learned to separate the work from being a fan. That being said, there have been a handful of shows and experiences that 15-year-old me could only have dreamed I would one day be a part of. In 2006, the band Tool was rehearsing for their upcoming 10,000 Days album and tour, and just being in the proximity of that room, hearing some of the songs, was incredible.

What advice would you give to aspiring backline techs?

Every day brings new learning experiences and lessons to take with you on the journey. Keep your head high with a smile and take advantage of any opportunities to deepen your skill set. And, most importantly, watch those who have done it before. I’ve had great opportunities to learn from truly some of the best in the business and wouldn’t be where I am without them.
