CenterStaging, is the premier rehearsal facility specializing in production and tech support for television and live performances. Known for its state-of-the-art rehearsal and recording studios, massive soundstage and extensive range of musical instruments, CenterStaging’s backline gear is used on practically every major television show as well as numerous tours, concerts and live events. CenterStaging is located in Burbank, CA.
In the 1970’s, music production on television was in its infancy. It consisted of the current top-ten recording artists lip-synching on
weekly dance shows and the appearances of well known, established recording stars on television variety shows. The biggest of whatare known today as the major award shows were the American Music Awards, Grammy Awards and shows such as Solid Gold, Soul Train, Midnight Special and the flagship of all music television, American Bandstand, there were few productions on television dedicated to the proliferation of popular music.
During those years, one of CenterStaging’s founders, Jan Parent, was a musical instrument technician and the resident television
production specialist for all of the above-mentioned shows. The techniques uses in those early years of multi-performance award
shows were primitive at best. With little or no sound reinforcement and all hand and analog instruments, it was a production challenge that was far less complicated than it is today.
In 1980, Jan Parent and Johnny Caswell became working associates and began cultivating a dream of providing the highest quality
rehearsal space, professional service, better equipment and more personal relationship to the working professional musician than had previously been available in the industry. With this in mind, they carved out a niche in the television music market and became the conduit between television producers and musicians to more effectively accomplish production goals.
In the early years founders Jan Parent and Johnny Caswell operated out of their garages and a basement storage locker on the lot of KTLA television Studios. In 1990, they rented 800 square feet of space in Burbank and for the next three years it served as the first home for the yet to-be-named CenterStaging Musical Productions, Inc. Recognizing the need to provide rehearsal space for the many TV shows that were keeping Jan and Johnny busy, in the fall of 1993 they moved to CenterStaging’s current location along with the construction of a warehouse, administrative offices and Studios 1, 2, and 3. In January of 1994, the newly incorporated CenterStaging Musical Productions opened the doors to its new facility and CenterStaging was quickly recognized as the premier rehearsal facility in the Los Angeles area.
In March of 1996 as a result to the response to production demands on the East Coast, CenterStaging took the first steps toward expansion in that area and a facility was opened just outside of Philadelphia.
In 1998, the acquisition of a parcel of land adjacent to the CenterStaging’s offices in Burbank became Sound Stage One as well as an additional two rehearsal studios. This multi-purpose, 9300 square foot, facility has seen the launch of many concert tours, multiple years of Dick Clarks’ Rockin New Years Eve, and many programs on just about every other network.
In 2000 CenterStaging expanded across the street and built out another six rehearsal studios, ranging in size from 1000 square feet to over 3000 square feet, and built a new staging warehouse for what was amassing to be the largest stock of backline gear in the world.
In November of 2009 CenterStaging Musical Productions Inc. was acquired by SoundCheck LA LLC and transformed itself to CenterStaging, LLC. With the addition of Artist Relations offices for some of the largest manufactures in the world associated with the musical and TV industry as well as storage lockers CenterStaging now has the ability to increase the superior suite of services while maintaining the decorum, privacy and discretion customers expect.
The list of clients that CenterStaging services is endless. With over 20 years of working for the Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, MDA Telethon, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, numerous Presidential Inaugurations, the Olympics, TV shows going back to American Bandstand, Arsenio Hall to today’s American Idol, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, and just about every other show where there is a musician onstage, CenterStaging is here to provide the greatest musicians and television productions in the world today with a facility and service that unparallel to anyone on our planet.
